TRACTION ELECTRICAL X BATTERY TECHOLOGIES
An update from our director, Mike Broom:
“40 years ago, when I joined the battery industry there was only 1 company that everyone used for forklift battery chargers and that was Traction Electrical Services.
Known for their expertise in everything battery charger, they were the go-to for charger control boards, fuses, switches and a completely rebuilt charger. In addition, they produced a range of plastic bodied chargers for the forklift rental market and waterproof models for airports across the UK. The Titan2000 charger was the pride of the business with chargers still used in airports for ground support equipment today.
Tony Clarke was the man behind the business, who originally trained as an electrician at the Co-op looking after fleets of milk floats which were used to deliver milk in Bristol. He saw an opportunity where no one else was supporting the battery industry, and Traction Electrical Services was born!
Over the years, we have witnessed the growth and expansion of the battery industry, including the unfortunate closure of TES. Although the circumstances were not ideal, this presented an opportunity for us at Battery Technologies to undertake the responsibilities of repairing chargers and associated electronics within the industry. We are privileged to ensure that critical battery systems remain reliable and efficient — from diagnosing complex faults to carrying out precise, component-level repairs.
At Battery Technologies we have benefitted greatly through our work with Traction Electrical over many years and we have managed to continue the great service in chargers that Tony started with Peter Jenkins, who continues to repair electronics and supply refurbished chargers. So, the service is continued and with our association with Benning Power Electronics, we add to the quality of charger services for forklift truck dealers and ground support(GSE) at UK airports.”
